Member email addys not showing up in profile?

I thought it used to be that at least the member's email address showed up in his/her profile, even if he selected not to show anything else. Has that changed?

Hi, Liza. A member has always had ability to control the visibility of his/her contact information to other members - at least in the 2 years I've been here.
When a member's email address is hidden, other members still have the option of direct contact via the "Private Message" feature.
A Groupsite Manager has access to all members' email addresses from the members export lists.
