Filename change in file cabinet

Hello,

The file cabinet provides the ability to modify properties of already uploaded files, by clicking on the "gear" icon. If I change the filename ("Optional: enter a custom file name"), I can no longer access the file - instead I get a 404 not found error. I can only access the file by changing its name back to the original.

I assume that this is a bug.

I also find it very irritating that spaces in filenames are replaced with underscores. Surely in the days of Web 2.0 we are beyond spaces in filenames being an issue...

Please follow up.

I and my members have also run into this issue.  Nick - not sure if you've received a response from Support yet, but here is what I've been able to detect:

When uploading a file, the name includes the extension (file.pdf).  If you fill in the "custom name" field (ex. "my file"), the original name AND the extension get wiped out.  You're now left with a file called "my file" (note spaces, no underscores) but it has no extension, which causes the 404 error.

Custom Name Field:
   original file name: file.pdf
   enter this: my file
displays this: my file  (spaces between words, no underscores, no extension)

This is only one part of the problem, however, with those new fields you can fill in... here is another issue:

Custom Date Field:
   enter this:  01Dec09
   displays this:  12/01/0009
(I was surprised there was no tip on how dates should be entered - should be easy enough to add that in)

Support - could someone look into these issues ASAP?  These are tripping up quite a number of people.

Thanks!

So we learn and avoid the trip wire of the "extra value added" fields...and thus reduce our confidence in the organization......ooooops!

Folks - We deployed the fixes that were required to stop the madness that was occurring when changing file names.  All should be well now.

CreeConnect - As we discussed by phone, I agree on your two suggestions of keeping the suffix [.ppt, .jpeg, etc.] attached to renamed files and providing guidance on date format as being needed and I have submitted an enhancement ticket. (2062)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Shaun

I am having two issues with the File Cabinet and custom file field.

1) I uploaded a file and used the custom file name field.   It changed the name in the File Cabinet, but it still shows the old name in the widget sections on my homepage.

2) The file cabinet is not accepting PowerPoint files.   It uploades them, but makes them become unknown files.  When I try to download them, it actuall wasy making them .zip files.

Please try to looking into ASAP!

Jeff - You have identified 2 separate issues that both need to be fixed.

The first is being corrected under ticket #2069 and the second is not a problem with PowerPoint files but rather a problem with any Office file saved in the O2K7 format with an x at the end like .pptx.  We are getting this fixed under ticket #1849.

Shaun

Jeff - you should now find you can download the new MS Office formatted files, including your .pptx PowerPoint files. Ticket #1849 is closed.  Ticket #2069, regarding old file names appearing in Content Modules on your Summary page, is still open. We'll write to let you know as soon as it's resolved.

Jeff -  You should now see the revised file names appearing correctly in the "File Cabinet" type of content module.  The names of files that you upload will also start appearing in the "Recent Activity" module, correctly.  Ticket #2069 is now closed.
