Site responsiveness/uptime

Is it just me or is the site:
a) sluggish to respond
b) showing 503 errors more then one would hope?
503 error = "The Web server (running the Web site) is currently unable to handle the HTTP request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay."
This isn't a (software) bug I know - but I didn't know where else to post.
I hope you are growing great guns of course - I just hope there is a plan to keep up on the hardware/scalability side.
