Formatting within text boxes

I was having trouble last night with the advanced formatting options. I could not (for the life of me) get the tables structure to work on my summary page. I couldn't work out if it was just me (getting it wrong) or a problem within the program. Has anyone else had trouble? I was going alright with inserting images/links and basic formatting.

Gareth,

You're an advanced user... most users never even attempt to add anything as complex as tables to their group's summary page. I'll have to try adding a table so that I can experience your issue for myself. It should be possible... we except standard HTML.

Hi Clarence. I spent a bit of time playing around with some standard HTML and had some success customizing the look of my summary page. It seems to happily accept basic HTML like you suggested.

Gareth,

I like the look of your group's summay page. Very nice use of HTML. You may want to demonstrate what you've done in the tips and tricks forum. Others could benefit from your example.

Clarence

We currently use a markup system called Textile which is described in the "formatting tips" link near textareas.

Textile makes it easier for many people to use basic markup but it can prevent more advanced HTML from rendering properly. To avoid this simply wrap your HTML post in <notextile></notextile> tags and your custom html will display unmodified.

Clarence: - thanks! - i spent a bit of time creating a look in frontpage and then just cut and pasted the html (minus a few bits). Its obviously not the work of a gifted designer, but it serves the purposes that I hoped it would. I am happy to to chuck it in the tips and tricks forum if it will help others

Robert: that is good to know. it means I can get exactly the look I am after by creating in html first. Thanks for the tip.

We'll be making a slight improvement to these editable areas very soon, and I'll be sure to include that in the advanced formatting tips. Also, in the not too distant future, we plan to overhaul these areas to let you enter rich content in a more friendly manner.
