custom email to joining members

maybe it exists now-but i cannot see where. I would like to be able to have an automated email sent when someone joins the group. Can anyone advise?

Hi Fiona,
it does exist. If you go to the appearance and branding section under the manager tab, you can customise the welcome letter. This is a very useful tool as I had been sending welcome messages to people as they joined, unaware they were also receiveing an automated one. It is much more effective to modify this message otherwise, their first impression of joining your group will be one of receiving two welcome emails. I believe that most people's aversion to joining networking groups is that they fear being bombarded by emails and although two welcome messages do not equate to a bombardment, it is not a good first impression.
