Side Bar Text Module "Group Blog" Acting Weird

We have a new BUG
I have created a wide side bar module and selected "Group Blog"
I use the default setting "recent posts" and selected the category "Logbook"
I set 4 posts
It looks fine when I save it BUT if I navigate to another page (on the site) and then back to the home page (or any page with a wide sidebar) the settings change and the blog posts disappear from the module.
When I edit the module I find that the settings have changed (without my help:-) and that the new setting is "featured article" and that no category is selected.
I cant find a way to "feature" a blog article so no items appear in the module.
Any thoughts?
Rick

Rick -- I've been able to duplicate this happening in other Groupsites and have opened support Ticket #1961.
The bug seems to be limited to the selection of Blog categories. When I choose the "Featured Post" view in my Group Blog module -- and then select a post to feature without choosing a category -- I find that the module does display as it should.
Hope that helps as we investigate and fix this.
Hi Diana,
How do you "feature" a blog post. I know how it works in announcements etc where there is a box to tick to "feature" a topic but I dont see how to do the same for a blog post. Hence your work around above is not working for me... sorry, I must be missing something!
Rick,
You can feature a blog post by adding a "Group Blog" type of content module to your SUMMARY page or a page sidebar.
1 - Choose a Group Blog type of module
2 - Select "Featured Blog Post" as your view
3 - Select the title of the post you want to feature. You won't see choices in this drop-down until blog posts have been written in your Groupsite.
4 - Choose the "Add Module" button which will be visible after you select your blog post.
That looks worth a try but I would like to show 4 recent blog entries rather than one featured blog entry.
Meanwhile our entire Island Aid groupsite has VANISHED!!!! just gone, disappeared. This is enough to make us reconsider using this platform at all. Very disconcerting. I sincerely hope it is backed up at groupsite HQ because we dont have a back up.
My other groupsites are working (well the ones I have checked so far)
HELP!
Rick
site is back up now but here is what we were seeing till about 3 minutes ago.
Thanks heavens everything is still there! my blood pressure started to peak!
Rick, a few things that may help:
- When ticket #1961 is fixed, it will display multiple blog entries if you have multiple entries for that blog category.
- As a workaround, consider using a Freeform Text type of module. List the titles of the blogs you want to spotlight, then use the text editor to create a hyperlink to each post.
- Regarding your "vanished" Groupsite -- I notice from the screen shot that your Web browser was not reaching the server ("server not found"), not that the the servers weren't available. i.e., your Groupsite wasn't down, but it seems you couldn't get a connection to it. I don't know the specific cause, but my understanding is that these types of errors are typically related to your router connection, a firewall setting, ISP or other internet connectivity issues.
- Absolutely, we can perform full backup recovery in the event of a system-wide emergency.
And thank you for including a screen shot in your earlier post - doing so generally helps us better understand, diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
Hope this helps.
