It would be great to have the ability to create custom forms to collect feedback or visitor contact and comments. Is this anywhere out there in the near future? I just hate having to tie in a 3rd party widget.

Ed - A forms module is a great request but, unfortunately has a few other great requests in line before it. "Near future" is a relative term than can always get software devlopers in trouble of mismanaging expectations.
I always say that in our would there are only 2 times: now and in the future. We do not do this now, but we hope to offer it in the future.

Another great one is formassembly.com.

I would still like to see a groupsite version of this, even without the bells and whistles of reporting... just a plain form-mail capability. The above 3rd-party solutions store the sent data which presents security issues for me.
